What is PEOPLE? PEOPLE is our voluntary political action fund.
Why do we need PEOPLE? We need our own war chest to fight attacks on our members. By law, we can’t use members’ dues money to wage our campaigns to elect candidates who stand by working families, or to oppose those who seek to deny us our rights.
What are PEOPLE contributions used for? PEOPLE money helps us fulfill the union’s mission of protecting and strengthening working families. We use PEOPLE dollars to fight for and enforce better contracts; safeguard our pensions; elect candidates who share our values and hold them accountable at all levels — local, state, and federal; and lobby to pass or stop laws/legislation.
What is a PEOPLE MVP? For as little as $2 a week, you can be a PEOPLE MVP. When you join at the MVP level, you will receive an MVP jacket with an embroidered PEOPLE logo.
Then what? Your contributions grow, along with those of your coworkers, to create a powerful political voice and help us push back against efforts to take away benefits, retirement security, and collective bargaining.

Contributions or gifts to AFSCME PEOPLE are not deductible for federal income tax purposes. All contributions to AFSCME PEOPLE are voluntary and will be used for political purposes. Contributions are not a condition of membership or employment and refusal to contribute is free of reprisal. Any contribution guideline is merely a suggestion, and you may contribute more or less than that amount and will not be favored or disadvantaged due to the amount of your contribution or decision not to contribute. In accordance with federal law, AFSCME PEOPLE accepts contributions only from AFSCME members, executive and administrative personnel, and their families. Contributions from other persons will be returned.
