Union holds mayoral, comptroller forums

By MIKE LEE

On Jan. 25, the union’s leadership hosted a members-only virtual forum for candidates running for mayor in the June 22 primary.

The Virtual Mayoral Candidate Forum was an opportunity for DC 37 members to hear the candidates vying for the position and answer their questions.

Taking questions were Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams; former HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan; Kathryn Garcia, who served as the city’s Sanitation Commissioner, longtime Wall Street executive Ray McGuire; City Council member Carlos Menchaca; Dianne Morales, a former nonprofit executive; current NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer, former New School professor and former counsel to Mayor Bill de Blasio Maya Wiley and entrepreneur Andrew Yang, who also ran for President in the Democratic Party primaries last year.

“This election year will be critical for DC 37,” said Political Action Director Jeremy John. “The City Comptroller is one of the critical offices up for this election. The Comptroller plays a quintessential role as New York City’s chief financial officer and oversees the pension fund, making sure that our members retire with dignity.”

On Feb. 11, the DC 37 Political Action Committee hosted another virtual members-only forum with several of the candidates for the pivotal NYC Comptroller position. Participating were state Senator Brian Benjamin; entrepreneur Zach Iscol; Brad Lander, City Council member; state Senator Kevin Parker and state Assembly member David Weprin.
