Local 1549’s Everyday Sheroes
Local 1549 recognized the “Everyday Woman” on March 4 at a Women’s History Month celebration.
“We are all special,” 1549 Women’s Committee Chair Tracye Hawthorne told the large crowd of mothers, daughters, sisters, wives and proud union members.
“All women are strong and powerful. They make you and they can break you,” said Local 1549 and DC 37 President Eddie Rodriguez.
The Wings of Glory Dance Missionary and the local’s Choral Group, directed by Executive Vice President Alma Roper, performed. The local honored various local members and DC 37 staff, and featured keynote speaker Dr. Hazel Dukes, president of the New York State NAACP.
“We celebrate the women who paved the way, whose shoulders we stand on,” Dukes said. – Joe Lopez
