DC 37’s work continues during city shutdown

In the face of the citywide shutdown, DC 37 services continue as union staffers work from home, providing the needed support for DC 37’s 150,000 members and 50,000 retirees.
DC 37’s business also continues, as leadership and staff stay in continuous communication on issues vital to the membership, while strategizing responses to current events.
“It is imperative that we provide members with the vital services they deserve during this pandemic,” said DC 37 Executive Director Henry Garrido. “We must continue to fight for our members each and every day.”
Through video conferencing, the union continues the DC 37 Delegates meetings, with about 200 attending the April 28 meeting to discuss department reports and hear updates on the continuing COVID-19 situation.
The DC 37 Political Action Committee held its meeting on April 23 with 55 participants. Garrido joined PAC Chair and Local 372 Executive Vice President Donald Nesbit and Jeremy John, director of the union’s Political Action Department, in discussing the impact on members working on the frontlines in the pandemic, updating members on the current situation, discussing proposed legislation to mitigate the impact of the pandemic, and stressing the importance of the June 23 primary election.
Members asked questions on important issues facing DC 37 members and their families, such as Workers’ Compensation, hazard pay for frontline workers, and the impact the pandemic has had on their respective communities.
