New Local 374 president elected

Leonard Paul was elected the new president of Quasi-Public Employees Local 374.
Leonard Paul is the new president of Quasi-Public Employees Local 374.

He was elected unopposed as the local vice president in December 2016, and in January 2018 he became president.

Paul, a 25-year city employee, is Foreman of Conservatory at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.

“I have always had a passion for the labor movement, my rights as a civil servant and protecting the rights of my fellow coworkers,” Paul said. He came up the ranks as a shop steward, a chapter chair and served on the local’s executive board.

Local 374 represents almost 600 members who are Maintainers, Attendant Guards, Instructors, Custodians, Gardeners, Motor Vehicle Operators, Clerical Associates and Secretaries at cultural institutions like the botanical gardens of New York, Brooklyn and Queens; the New York Public Library, the Institute for Ecosystems Studies, and Wave Hill Garden.
