Hazel McDonald celebrates 100th birthday

Hazel McDonald enjoys her 100th birthday party
DC 37 retiree Hazel McDonald celebrated her 100th birthday on May 1 at the Parkside Senior Citizens Center in the Bronx.

McDonald retired in 1992 from the Police Dept., where she worked as a Police Administrative Aide for 25 years and was represented by Clerical-Administrative Employees Local 1549.

McDonald also worked for the Traffic Dept. as a meter maid and at Bellevue Hospital Center. She enjoyed volunteering for the union’s Political Action and Legislation Dept. where she got to meet and shake hands with President Bill Clinton, Mayor David Dinkins and Nelson Mandela.

“I volunteered for a lot committees at the union; it kept me out of trouble,” she said with a laugh.
