Love will always trump hate.

This was the message delivered as DC 37’s Lesbian and Gay Issues Committee (LAGIC) kicked off Pride month with a ribbon-cutting celebration on June 5 at union headquarters.

“The people leading the White House today are preaching intolerance,” said DC 37 Executive Director Henry Garrido.

At the forefront of the administration is Vice President Mike Pence, who has a long track record of anti-LGBTQ positions throughout his political career. Pence has opposed laws that would protect LGBTQ people against discrimination in the workplace and conversion therapy, which is aimed at changing a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity.

“Unions stand up for the rights of those who are being persecuted. We stand up for social justice and we will stand against the White House and fight for our brothers and sisters in the gay community,” Garrido said.
