Raul Rodgriguez offers tips to members at a workshop to cope with their debt.

Student debt

The union’s popular workshops to help members reduce their student debt will offer two more sessions in the fall. “We have members who have been able to reduce their student debt to five dollars a month,” said Raul Rodriguez, director of the Office of Community Partnership.

At the Aug. 9 session Rodriguez reviewed various payment plans available, like the Income Driven Repayment Plan, to help members handle their student debt from their college loans. Members who default on their federal student loans risk of losing their professional licenses, Rodriguez told members at the August session.

Workshops will be offered at DC 37 headquarters on Sept. 18 and Oct. 16. Registration is required to attend and members must bring their union cards.
